A Stress-Free Guide to Moving House

It’s no secret that moving house is high on the list of life’s most stressful things to do.It’s an emotional time, both physically and mentally draining. Not only is there so much to think about from the sale/rental/relocation aspect but also the sheer amount of organisation involved. It can be stressful leaving friends, maybe family, moving to a new area. The physical demands of dismantling furniture, packing boxes, not to mention the emotional aspect of trawling through all of our personal items, all takes its toll. On top of all of this, there are so many elements that are out of our control and keep us awake at night.

Having said that, there are things you can do to make it go as smoothly as possible:

  • Declutter as you pack, it will make life much easier on the other side!

  • Pack a box of essentials for your first night at least, chargers, kettle and teabags, toilet paper, soap, towel, slippers, whatever you need to make life easier in the midst of potential madness!

  • Leave kids and pets out of the equation if possible, get someone to look after them for the day while everything is being moved in.

  • Label all your boxes on each side and the top with what room they go into and what’s inside.

  • Get ordering early: Even in this age of next day deliveries, everything being available at the touch of a button, it’s still hugely stressful to think of everything that you need, when it will arrive etc.

  • Make your new place as homely as possible early on, put up your curtains or blinds, lay rugs, put up some of your favourite pictures. Settling in can take time but adding little homely touches will help speed that up.
